MUNSTER TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY

PJ Hegarty was awarded the contract in 2003 for the construction of a new Tourism and Catering Studies Building at Munster Technological University (formally Cork Institute of Technology), which was commissioned to provide much-needed state-of-the-art facilities to service the huge demand for trained personnel in the thriving tourism and hospitality sector in Cork and Kerry. The design was a part-single storey, part-two storey brick-clad building with functional and decorative brick chimneys.

10 Molesworth Street is a prestigious modern office building in Dublin’s Central Business District — 12,500 m² of office space over five floors. Construction followed demolition of a previous office development, and the new building includes a double basement car park, a green roof, an atrium, an ESB substation and an internal landscaped courtyard.

No. 40 Molesworth Street is a reconstructed modern office building in Dublin 2’s Central Business District. The project involved refurbishing the existing building and upgrading the internal spaces. Work commenced on the refurbishment of the 2,972 m² building in 2015, and it opened in summer 2017.

This two-building office development and fit-out, comprising six- and eight-storey structures, included the construction of two basement levels for parking, service areas, a gym, and associated facilities. The project holds LEED Gold certification, reflecting our commitment to sustainability.

Penrose Dock in Cork city’s docklands is one of Ireland’s most celebrated modern office spaces, on a prime riverside site on the Lee, and beside Kent Station. The development offers a net floor area of 22,077m² across two buildings, the six-storey over ground Penrose One and the eight-storey Penrose Two. Works also included construction of two basement levels of ancillary car parking and services areas, a gym and associated facilities including access for vehicles.

85 South Mall is one of Cork city’s most celebrated modern commercial spaces — a 4,400 m² office block with an abundance of natural light through its distinct floor to ceiling glazing, and views of some of Cork’s most famous landmarks. The office building opened in 2019, and is a main hub in Cork’s Central Business District.

PJ Hegarty spearheaded a vibrant development project encompassing retail, residential, leisure and office space in Blackpool, a northern suburb of Cork city. The Retail Park is right beside Blackpool Shopping Centre, north Cork’s main shopping hub. The €100 million project began in 2004, and was completed in four distinct phases.

PJ Hegarty played an integral role in the Lapps Quay Development in Cork city’s revamped dockland area. We were contracted to construct a basement car parking facility, with 280 spaces in a 11,500m² area. Complementary work also included modifications to road levels at Lapps Quay, minor realignment of kerb lines on Clontarf Street, and removal and reinstatement of Quay walls. PJ Hegarty also constructed a new boardwalk, along with ancillary landscaping and site works.

Railway Square is a prime mixed-use development next to the old city walls in Waterford that was designed to regenerate a previously derelict brownfield site in the city centre. The modern three-block development totals 26,000m² of floor space and comprises 111 luxury apartments as well as retail units, offices, student accommodation and a multiplex cinema, with a basement carpark providing 180 parking spaces.

PJ Hegarty was contracted to construct a hotel in south Dublin, on the original site of the celebrated pub, Kitty O’Shea’s. The five-storey hotel — opened in 2005 — has 142 bedrooms, five conference rooms, a basement car park, the Grand Canal Restaurant and the Gasworks pub (transformed in 2015 from the old Kitty O’Shea’s). Construction features a steel frame with brick faced, pre-cast concrete cladding panels.
