Maurice Killeen appointed as Managing Director for Ireland

PJ Hegarty has appointed Maurice Killeen as Managing Director for Ireland.

Maurice joined the company in 1993 and has since delivered complex, high-value projects for PJ Hegarty across the civil, industrial, pharmaceutical, life science, and commercial sectors.

With more than 500 employees, PJ Hegarty is a leading company in large-scale construction with operations in Ireland and the UK and an annual turnover in excess of €500m.

The family-owned business marked its 100th anniversary in Ireland last year and maintains a firm focus on safety, sustainability, responsible procurement and diversity and inclusion.

Maurice Killeen’s appointment follows senior roles as Regional Director and more recently as Operations Director (Southern Region) following his appointment to the PJ Hegarty board in 2022. He is an Engineering graduate of UCD.

PJ Hegarty has also appointed Barry Dodd as Managing Director for the UK region where he will oversee a business with a projected turnover of £110m this year.

PJ Hegarty delivers major projects across commercial, pharmaceutical, life sciences, high-tech, industrial, infrastructure, residential, aviation, fit-out and specialist sectors.

Current projects being undertaken by the company include the Citibank headquarters in Dublin’s Docklands, a significant programme of works at Dublin and Cork Airports, a number of large-scale data centre and pharmaceutical projects for multinational clients, and Ireland’s tallest residential building, the 25-storey Railyard development at Albert Quay, Cork.

Commenting, Maurice Killeen, Managing Director, PJ Hegarty, Ireland, said he was looking forward to the continued growth and development of the company.

“From the outset, my journey with PJ Hegarty has been shaped by working with exceptional people throughout our industry to deliver important and noteworthy projects across a broad range of sectors.  I am delighted to take on the role of Managing Director and excited to lead the continued growth and success of our Irish business.”

Ronald McDonald Cooking for Families

Every year, we are proud to take part in the Ronald McDonald Cooking for Families programme.

On Thursday, May 14th, six members of the PJ Hegarty team stepped into the kitchen at Ronald McDonald House in Crumlin to prepare a meal for families staying there while their children receive treatment in hospital.

Ronald McDonald House Charities Ireland provides accommodation, meals, and vital support for families with seriously ill children during an incredibly difficult time.

Darkness into Light

On Friday, May 8th, members of our Southern Region team took part in Darkness into Light in Cork city in aid of Pieta House.

Walking from darkness into the morning light at sunrise, the team experienced the meaning behind the event. As our Regional Director, Ronan McCarthy, mentioned, speaking about mental health can help reduce stigma and encourage those who may be struggling to seek support.

Gathering at our Southern Region office on Carroll’s Quay, the group took in some of our landmark sites in Cork, including Penrose Dock, our ongoing project at Railyard Apartments, The Elysian, 85 South Mall, the historic Bridewell Garda Station, and the current restoration works at Crawford Art Gallery, all while the sun began to light up the city.

In 2025 alone, Darkness into Light fundraising has helped support more than 100,000 helpline calls and texts, 41,000 hours of counselling, and over 6,000 therapy journeys through Pieta’s services.
